A child's teeth are very important for a child to learn and enhance speaking and chewing functions. These teeth also act as guide for the permanent teeth to erupt in the correct position. Parents play a very important role in their child's oral health. At Lifeline dental we believe that a child's first dental visit should be around 3 years of age. We make this visit fun, friendly and a beginning of a positive and strong foundation for optimum oral health for life.
For kids who have teeth with deep grooves, fissure seals may be recommended.
Fissure sealants are resin based fluoride incorporated protective coat which are recommended for deep fissures (the grooves on the top of the teeth) in the molars and sometimes premolars (back teeth) to help protect the teeth from decay. It acts as a barrier to prevent retention of debris, plaque and bacteria in these fissures which causes decay.
These sealants can be placed on the deciduous (baby teeth) as well as permanent teeth. The deciduous molars serve the child for 10-13 years before the permanent teeth replace them. It is imperative that the deciduous teeth are prevented from decay to allow a child to be dental pain free.
The first permanent molars appear in the mouth around the age of 6years distal (behind) the deciduous second molars. These teeth appear at almost the same time as the upper and lower front teeth.

TIPS:
- Discuss the visit beforehand – assure your child that the dentist will take them for a "fun ride in the chair and count their teeth". Never in debriefing to them say – "it won't hurt as they do not hear the word 'won't'
- Don't share your personal anxiety about going to the dentist.
- Don't let others tell your child about negative dental experiences.
- Select an appointment time that's best for your child routine – for example early morning.
